About the author - Catherine Chidgey
Catherine Chidgey’s novels have attracted international acclaim. Honours include the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book (Asia-Pacific), a Betty Trask Award (UK), the Katherine Mansfield Short Story Award and the Janet Frame Fiction Prize. Her novel The Wish Child won the Acorn Foundation Fiction Prize at the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards – the country’s richest writing prize. Radio New Zealand called it ‘a brilliant, brilliant novel…a masterpiece’, and The Times (UK) ‘a remarkable book with a stunningly original twist’.
Catherine has translated many children’s books from the German. She lives in Ngāruawāhia with her husband, daughter and odd-eyed cats.

Astrid is a versatile graphic designer, trained at Auckland University of
Technology, specializing in visual material for children. She has illustrated over 50
educational titles and recently worked with Witi Ihimaera in the development of his
picture book. She uses a variety of media including ink with watercolour or digital
